01 / What’s documented

Model Context Protocol

Anthropic introduced MCP as an open standard connecting AI applications with data sources and tools through client and server implementations.

The announcement describes MCP clients and servers, an open specification and SDKs, and a shared approach to connecting data sources and AI tools.

02 / What’s still open

What can this connector actually access?

An announcement is not an audit of a particular MCP server. It does not prove that your integration is secure, interoperable, or cheaper to maintain.

Authorization, data exposure, tool scopes, untrusted content, and protocol-version compatibility must be evaluated separately.

03 / Proposed test

Connector-boundary evaluation

Not run. This is a protocol, not a result.

  1. Choose one read-only integration and define the minimum data and tool permissions it needs.
  2. Pin client, server, and protocol versions. Use synthetic or non-sensitive data in an isolated environment.
  3. Test expected requests, denied access, malformed input, timeouts, and untrusted source content.
  4. Document observable failures and permission boundaries before considering a broader rollout.

Record these measurements

  • Integration time
  • Successful and rejected requests
  • Authorization boundary violations
  • Protocol and server versions
  • Failure recovery and audit coverage

Keep all attempts, including failures. A ten-task trial is exploratory; report its limits rather than generalizing to other workloads.

04 / Source record

One source. Clear boundaries.
